Khanh Lam Pagoda

Khanh Lam Pagoda is situated in the Mang Den Ecotourism Area, Dak Long Commune, Kon Plong District, Kon Tum Province. Located at an altitude of 1,200 meters above sea level, the pagoda harmoniously blends traditional Buddhist architecture with the majestic natural scenery of the Central Highlands. Constructed in 2012 and completed in 2017 on a 10-hectare area, it has become a prominent pilgrimage and tourist destination in Mang Den.

History and Meaning of the Name

Khanh Lam Pagoda was inaugurated on March 7, 2012, as a result of the aspirations of its abbot, Venerable Thich Nhuan Bao, and contributions from Buddhists, businesses, and devotees from across the country. The name "Khanh Lam" combines the names of two significant temples: Trung Khanh Monastery and Phuoc Lam Temple, where the abbot once practiced and served as a monk.

The pagoda serves not only as a religious sanctuary but also as a cultural landmark that preserves and promotes Buddhist traditions.

The Path to the Pagoda

Perched atop a hill, the journey to the main sanctuary requires climbing 236 stone steps. The pathway is lined with greenery, with stone benches on either side for visitors to rest. The tranquil surroundings offer visitors a peaceful atmosphere, ideal for photography and relaxation.

Three-Gate Entrance (Tam Quan Gate)

The three-gate entrance exudes a classic charm with curved roofs and intricate carvings. At the center is the signboard bearing the name "Khanh Lam", flanked by the inscriptions “Compassion” and “Selflessness”, reflecting the core principles of Buddhism.

Main Sanctuary

The main sanctuary is a striking three-tiered structure combining traditional Vietnamese temple architecture with elements of the Central Highlands' communal houses. Inside, visitors can experience a serene space for prayer and worship.

17-Meter-Tall Statue of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva

In front of the main sanctuary stands a 17-meter-tall statue of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, surrounded by lush greenery and a lotus pond, creating a sacred and tranquil ambiance.

18 Arhat Statues

One unique feature is the row of 18 Arhat statues, each life-sized and meticulously crafted. The statues, adorned with gold accents, showcase fine artistry and reverence for Buddhist traditions, captivating art and culture enthusiasts alike.

Bell Tower and Drum Tower

Adjacent to the Avalokitesvara statue are the bell and drum towers. The bell, standing 2 meters tall and weighing over a ton, complements the drum made from a single block of rare Po Mu wood, with a diameter of 1.4 meters. These features enhance the pagoda's timeless spiritual ambiance.

East Lan and West Lan Houses

Behind the main sanctuary are the East Lan and West Lan houses, constructed from precious forest jackfruit wood. These structures, featuring intricate carvings and tiled roofs, are used for monastic activities and accommodations for visitors.
